Patrick McGoey Memorial Fund

Patrick McGoey, age 19, beloved son of current National vice president and past National Staff member, Dr. Shane McGoey, PhD, Phi Pi Chi ’88, passed away on May 27, 2022. An exceptional hockey player and teammate, he touched many during his time as a member of the hockey families of Bridgton Academy, PHA Iceman, Seneca Valley, and North Pittsburgh Wildcats. Patrick was a friend to everyone he met. He was happiest on the ice; skates laced up and stick in his hands. He will be remembered for his smile and love of the game.

Patrick “Patch” McGoey was a talented hockey player! He played on club teams since he was four years old and played for the Seneca Valley Middle School, JV, and Varsity teams, as well as for the Bridgton Academy team in Maine. Brother McGoey loved watching his son play the game he loved with teammates that weren’t just friends, but extended family. The biggest reason Brother McGoey decided to establish this scholarship is to allow undergraduate brothers, who are athletically inclined, the ability to experience what his son experienced as an athlete. Patch’s legacy will endure.

To celebrate his memory, Brother McGoey has established a memorial fund in Patrick’s name to celebrate and support active undergraduate Brothers who are engaged in intercollegiate, or club athletics and are also high academic achievers. In the event there is no recipient of the scholarship in a given year, the funds may be used to provide a grant to a Chapter that completes programming related to mental health in the Chapter or hosts a campus wide mental health program, or Fraternity educational programming implemented by National Staff that supports mental health or suicide prevention to the Brotherhood.
