Badge - The pin worn over the heart by an active Brother of Alpha Chi Rho.
Big Brother – The Brother chosen by a Postulant who guides and supports him through the postulant period and membership.
Bid – A formal invitation to join a fraternity
Chapter- The term that applies to the group of undergraduates at a college or university that is a branch of the National Fraternity.
Crows – The nickname of Alpha Chi Rho.
Dues – The fee decided on by a Chapter that each member pays in order to sustain Chapter operations.
Exoteric manual – A book designed to present the ideas of Alpha Chi Rho.
Formal – A social event put on by a fraternity, usually a dance.
Fraternity - A name applied to mostly all male Greek organizations.
Graduate Chapter - An organization of alumni for each Chapter that monitor the undergraduate Chapter.
Greek - A student affiliated with a fraternity or sorority.
Hazing - Any action or situation taken place by a group that produces mental or physical distress to another individual.
Initiation - A ceremony in which Postulants become full members.
Initiation fee – The one time required fee (separate from annual dues) that finalizes membership into AXP.
IFC - Interfraternity Council that governs fraternities on campuses.
Labarum – The symbol recognized as Alpha Chi Rho that is derived from the Greek letters of the Fraternity.
Panhel - Panhellenic council that governs sororities on campus.
Postulant – A new member participating in the educational period membership.
Recruitment - An ongoing process in which current members make friends and try to find prospective members.
Rush - A short period where Greeks try to increase membership.
Scholarship Advisor - A person who helps guide the Chapter, usually a college professor.
Sorority - The name given to an all women’s Greek organization.
